Professional fouls - also known as 'tactical' fouls - have become increasingly prevalent in football over the past decade, so it's no surprise to see them now arrive in EA FC 25. Find out how to pull off a professional foul in-game below!

In order to enact a professional foul, all you need to do is press R1+X on PlayStation or RB+A on Xbox when in close proximity to the player with the ball.

Much like a standard tackle, this won't always be successful - but the nature of a tactical foul means that precision doesn't exactly carry that much weight! It'll be far more reliable than trying to foul a player breaking away with a standing or sliding tackle though, so definitely one to pull out in the right circumstances.

Of course, tactical fouls like these have consequences, and a successful one will not only guarantee a free kick to the fouled team but also a yellow card for the offending player

While it isn't explicitly clear, EA states that "excessive use of Professional Fouls in a match can lead to red cards" - implying that you can't simply just tactical foul with every player in rotation without severe reprocussions.

When should you tactical foul?

The best times to use a professional foul are when the opponent is breaking away on a counterattack - especially in a situation where you'd be outnumbered or at a significant advantage. You'll find these often after corners or when you've had a lot of players committed to attack, and it can save you from conceding.

Additionally, another great time to use a professional foul is when an attacker has broken through the lines into a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. You'll often have a defender who isn't close enough to make a good tackle, but is close enough to tear the attacker down, preventing the chance from occurring.

Be careful not to do this within the penalty area though, as you'll likely get a red card alongside giving away a near-guaranteed free goal.

While you can tactical foul at any point, the yellow card repercussions mean that you should try and save it for times that are worth the sacrifice. Don't expect any respect from your opponent though, as this tactic is often worth far more than the punishment you'll receive!
