Goalkeepers have had the benefit of a handful of new PlayStyles in EA FC 25, giving you new ways to prioritise certain aspects between the sticks and beyond. Check out a full list of the new PlayStyles below, alongside what each one does and the benefits from their '+' variants.
All new PlayStyles revealed
Joining the four Goalkeeping PlayStyles introduced in FC 24, there are two new options given to deserving players: Deflector and Far Reach.
Deflector
The new 'Deflector' PlayStyle is given to goalkeepers who are known for their ability to deflect their saves into safer spaces.
This will likely be extremely helpful when it comes to preventing those second-chance goals that are all too common, taking out a big point of frustration if you have the right person between the sticks.
PlayStyle effects
- Performs deflection saves into safer areas with increased ball speed control
PlayStyle+ effects
- Performs deflection saves into safer areas or towards free teammates with greater ball speed control
As you can see, both of these effects will be extremely helpful in-game, offering you protection, especially in counter-attacking scenarios.
Far Reach
While not technically new, as it appeared last year exclusively within the Be A Goalkeeper mode, Far Reach appears to be making its way into standard modes in FC 25.
It could have the potential to become the strongest meta PlayStyle for goalkeepers though, so definitely keep your eyes peeled.
It's given to goalkeepers who are known for their ability to cover the net and extend their reach to save challenging shots - so often the best of the best.
PlayStyle effects
- Performs diving saves with improved reach and has access to extended reach animations
PlayStyle+ effects
- Performs diving saves with greater reach and has access to extended reach animations
If you've played EA FC for any length of time you'll know that the secret to many of the game's best players comes from unique animations, so the introduction of them here is what will likely thrust this PlayStyle into the meta.
On top of that, having the capability to simply reach further will prevent countless goals that would have otherwise hit the back of the net, which you really can't take for granted in a game as tight as football.
Will there be any more new PlayStyles?
It's unlikely that the new additions will stop at just two new goalkeeper options, with six different PlayStyle groups in total beyond the shot-stoppers.
I doubt that each group will gain two like the goalkeeper options - as that remained smaller in comparison to FC 24 - but I'd expect a couple more across the board. Only two have been officially announced so far though, but I'll make sure to update this page if or when any further additions are announced.
This will likely go hand-in-hand with the new Player Roles that are being introduced and will require a keen tactician to make the most of each player within their intricately crafted system.
