If keeping clean sheets is your aim then you should definitely aim for the best Centre Backs in Ultimate Team, as it's one of the most important positions to get right in EA FC 25.

Best CBs in EA FC 25

  • Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
  • Mapi León (Barcelona)
  • Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid)
  • Marquinhos (PSG)
  • Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)
  • William Saliba (Arsenal)
  • Gleison Bremer (Juventus)
  • Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund)
  • Ronald Araujo (Barcelona)
  • David Alaba (Real Madrid)
  • Éder Militão (Real Madrid)
  • Nathan Aké (Manchester City)
  • Fikayo Tomori (Milan)

Pace, Physical, and Defending are as important as ever in your Centre Backs, with players like Van Dijk, Saliba, and Rüdiger dominating in all three.

Much like the best Goalkeepers, height is also a very strong consideration, as it'll directly correlate with your defender's aerial ability and their physical profile too. While his stats are at the top of the pile, someone like Van Dijk would be strong regardless as his physical stature overpowers just about any player out there.

Much like last year, PlayStyles are also incredibly important, as a weaker player with the right PlayStyles can often be better than another card that surpasses their stats. You'll also want to factor in the new Player Roles, as they can make a big difference to how each card plays on the pitch.

Best Centre Back PlayStyles

Here are the best PlayStyles that you'll want to watch out for in your CBs, broken down into the three distinct Player Roles too. Make sure to aim for PlayStyle+ in these if possible too, as the effect will be even stronger.

Defender

  • Block
  • Bruiser
  • Jockey
  • Anticipate

Ball-Playing Defender

  • Pinged Pass
  • Tiki Taka
  • Press Proven
  • Intercept
  • Slide Tackle
  • Anticipate

Stopper

  • Block
  • Bruiser
  • Intercept
  • Slide Tackle
  • Anticipate

Best CB Player Roles

I'd generally recommend opting for the Ball-Playing Defender Player Role whenever you can, as it'll take advantage of many of the top players' skill sets.

With this, you'll get the benefits of a strong CB, alongside another body in build-up to help you break down an opposition defence. You do need to be careful as you can be prone to counter-attacks, but the high pace of the best defenders will more than cover this deficiency.

Alternatively, if you just want to keep it simple I'd recommend the 'Defender' Player Role, as this will keep your CBs in the back line and ready to defend an attack. You'll want to have a strong defensive midfielder in order to cover for this though, as they likely won't step up and also won't be as involved in the build-up phases.
