Exploring the whole Elden Ring map will give you the greatest odds of collecting enough Runes to level up frequently and gain the best equipment from around the Lands Between.
Just a quick glance at the map will tell you the game is huge, with it containing various regions both above and below ground. If you want to know how to uncover the entire map by collecting fragments from the steles, here are all their locations.
Finding map fragments is simple on paper because they're always located at the base of huge stone slabs called Guide Steles. Guide Steles are marked on the map beforehand, and I found that even zooming into areas you haven't explored will reveal the location of steles.
Pick up the map fragment and voila! You'll have the entire map for that region filled in.
The first map fragment you'll want to grab upon starting the game will be West Limgrave. From the Church of Elleh, follow the path north-by-north-east through the forest with soldiers patrolling.
On the other side of the forest are the Gatefront Ruins. You'll have a lot of enemies to deal with here, but once you do, you can grab the map fragment from the Guide Stele at the crossroads.
The map fragment for East Limgrave can be found in the heart of the Mistwoods. In the east of Limgrave, the Mistwoods lie between the Third Church of Marika in the north and Fort Haight in the south.
You will find the Guide Stele beside the main road, so it is easily found when taking the road through the forest. Beware the bears, they are especially large here and you look quite like a pot of honey to them.
South of Limgrave is the Weeping Peninsula, which is actually an island but who am I to argue with Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin about geography? When you cross the Bridge of Sacrifice into the area, the road leads south toward Castle Morne.
If you follow this road south you will cross the castle ramparts and the castle will be in sight ahead of you. On the way to the castle from here, the Guide Stele can be found on your right. Avoid the giant firing arrows the size of houses at you.
The East Liurnia map fragment can be acquired as soon as you enter the region. When you descend from behind Stormveil to the edge of the lake, you will find a site of grace beside a merchant. From here, you need to head north into the lake.
Follow the road between the trees, and you will find the Guide Stele among several enemies.
For the North Liurnia map fragment, you're looking for Academy Gate Town. Do you see the broken bridge crossing the swamp at a slight angle, from the eastern shore to the center?
Head to the middle of this bridge and at the bottom, you'll find the Site of Grace for Academy Gate Town and the map fragment right next to it.
To get the West Liurnia map fragment, go north from the North Liurnia map fragment. Seriously, the West Liurnia fragment is on the northwest shore of the lake. Circle around Raya Lucaria from the previous location and head northwest until landfall.
You will find the Guide Stele north of the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace, alongside the main road.
The northern region of Caelid is known as Dragonbarrow, what we need is the Dragonbarrow map fragment. When you enter Caelid from Limgrave, continue heading east. Come off the road when it turns south, and go east down into the lower lands.
Stick to the cliff to the north until you can head up and here you should find a site of grace, called Dragonbarrow West. After this, go a little further east along the road and you should find the Dragonbarrow map fragment on the right side of the road.
The Caelid map fragment is found in the south of the region and should be easy to grab. There is a large ring road that goes along the south of Caelid, and along that road, you'll find a junction. That junction is where the road to Castle Redmane breaks off, so this is an important spot to reach.
Follow the road from either side and you will find the map fragment at the junction to the castle.
The map fragment for the Altus Plateau can be found after activating the Grand Lift of Dectus. Once it's reached the top, follow the road directly ahead before taking the left before the large set of stairs next to the statues. You should come across the stele with the map fragment on your left side.
After the previous map fragment, turn around and go back the way you came, but turn to go up the large set of stairs toward the Erdtree. There are a lot of enemies on the way up here, so you can just run through on your horse, or go up the large hill on the left and sneak past the two Tree Sentinels. Once you go through the large doors, you'll come across a site of Lost Grace, with the map stele just ahead.
From the Altus Plateau, you'll need to drop down where the large broken bridge is toward the centre of the area and travel across to the other side, before following the road left to the Lost Grace called Bridge of Iniquity.
Hug the cliff wall on the left to take the ladder up where you can start heading toward Volcano Manor. Eventually, you'll come to the entrance of the manor guarded by a giant, so take the road down to the right, and you can find the map fragment near a giant hand monster.
Once you have dealt with Morgott and can activate the Grand Lift of Rold, you need to find the Mountaintops of the Giants.
Take the route out of the city to the east, and you'll come across a largely straight path to follow until coming into a building with the Black Blade Kindred boss. Defeat them and activate the Grand Lift. At the top follow the cliff ledge and the map fragment will be on your right side.
After traveling through the Mountaintops of the Giants area, you'll come to the Freezing Lake Lost Grace. From here, follow the lake's western side and carry on forward until the cliff is on your right side. You'll come past a cave, and then you can drop down and go through a foggy area where a boss waits.
Kill it or carry on forward, but you'll come to some ruins where you can turn right slightly and follow the path, keeping the cliff edge to your left side. Carry on forward until you can cross the giant chain across the chasm, where the map fragment will be on your left side.
From the Grand Lift of Rold, you'll need to enter the path to the Haligtree. Once you've gained access to this section, follow the path ahead into the snowfield, and carry on until you come across a large dead tree. At the foot of the tree is the stele with the map fragment.
The Siofra River map fragment is an important one to get if you want to explore the underground region. It is found near the riverbank, so make your way into the area and get to the Siofra River Bank site of grace.
From here, look to the east. You will see a large doorway at the top of some stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, on the right, you will find the map fragment on a corpse.
From the Great Waterfall Crest Lost Grace, follow the brook and cross it go down the mud path. You'll then be able to jump onto a large branch to cross a chasm.
From here, carry on up the hill toward a Lost Grace site, and turn right at it while following the cliff. You'll come to a place with shallow water and a structure in the middle with a dead body on the stairs. Loot the map fragment from the corpse.
After descending into the Ainsel River, follow the path until you come to another elevator. Take it down, and carry on through the large ancient doorway. You'll come into a large chamber with an enemy that is hanging from the ceiling and attempting to shoot you. Walk into the large temple underneath him, and grab the map fragment on the floor.
Those are all the Elden Ring map fragments, and now you'll be able to make your way across the whole map.
