While not quite as extensive as some others in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Dryleaf Dane's NPC quest can still be tricky to decipher - and you can do so easily with our full walkthrough below.
Where to find Dryleaf Dane
Dryleaf Dane is found right next to the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace in Scadu Altus. There is also a Scadutree Fragment here, which will help on your journey through the game!
To get here, you either need to defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight or head through the poison area in east Gravesite Plain, up to the Fort of Reprimand, and then north from there.
You'll need to make your way to the Highroad Cross Site of Grace just after Rellana regardless of whether you beat her or not to progress Dane's quest.
Quest walkthrough
Getting the Monk's Missive
Technically the first step of Dryleaf Dane's quest doesn't involve him at all, as you'll need to pick up the Monk's Missive and 'May the Best Win' gesture. These can both be found as an item drop next to the Highroad Cross Site of Grace in Scadu Altus.
While I've positioned this as the first part of the quest as most players will do this before finding Dane, you just won't be able to do anything with Dane until you've found these items, so you've not messed anything up if you've met him before finding these items.
The Missive mentions finding someone 'to the east' in order to 'pursue the path of the warrior'. It continues, indicating that you'll need to 'challenge them to a bout' and that there is 'no need for words' - I wonder what that could entail…
Challenging Dane
Now that you've got the gesture you'll now want to find Dane and challenge him to a duel. As mentioned, he is found right by the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace, which is, as the Missive suggests, directly to the east of Highroad Cross.
All he does is grunt when you try to speak to him, so instead you should use the 'May the Best Win' gesture in front of him. Before doing this, make sure that you've got your best equipment on and have full health and flasks, as you'll quickly be in the middle of a fight.
You'll then be teleported to an area and tasked with defeating Dryleaf Dane in combat. He isn't too difficult compared to other NPC invaders, although you'll have to watch out for his flurry of kicks!
Once defeated, you'll be able to pick up the Dryleaf Arts weapon and Dane's Hat from an item drop where he once stood.
Leda & Allies
Unfortunately, the next 'step' of Dryleaf Dane's quest is fighting him as part of Needle Knight Leda's boss fight in Enir-Ilim.
While you can summon him for some boss fights along the way, and he does leave you a note in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, there is no way to stop him from joining forces with Leda and fighting you.
Completing the boss fight will allow you to get his armour and the Dane's Footwork weapon, which is a worthy reward!
