Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree has a small file size, but here's when you can preload just in case

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Shadow of the Erdtree is just over 16 GB on PlayStation
  • You can preload it from June 19

Despite Elden Ring’s massive scale, it had a surprisingly modest file size when it first launched in 2022, and the subsequent Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is no different.

The latest paid update for FromSoftware’s magnum opus promises us ten new bosses, and over 100 new weapons to play with, all set in a brand new world space that’s roughly the same size as Limgrave. Although players might be expecting a chunky download size to go along with all this new content, that’s not the case. Better still, we don’t have to wait too long to preload it all, either.

Shadow of the Erdtree download size

The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring clocks in at 16.5 GB, according to PlayStation Game Size. This was verified by an update to Elden Ring on the PlayStation database, which confirms that the new install size of Elden Ring following the DLC update will be 54.2 GB.

Considering the sheer amount of content that Elden Ring houses, that’s a fairly modest increase in file size for such an epic RPG.

This file size seems specifically tied to the PlayStation version of Elden Ring, although it's very likely that both PC and Xbox will feature very similar file sizes.

Here’s when you can preload the DLC

Gameplay from the Shadow of the Erdtree gameplay

Better still, Bandai Namco is letting you preload the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC a couple of days before the game launches. It will be available to download from June 19, two days before it launches on June 21.

If you’ve got particularly slow internet, this will be music to your ears, as you can make sure the new content is ready to go the moment it becomes available. We’re not completely sure about the launch time of the DLC just yet, but I’ll be sure to report back when we know more.
