Everything we know about the Skyline Valley Update for Fallout 76
The Skyline Valley update in Fallout 76 will bring a new region to the game and some new Public Events, so here's all we know and how to join the Public Test Server.
Off the hype from Amazon's Fallout television series, Fallout 76 is seeing a resurgence like never before, and to capitalise, Bethesda is releasing a brand-new expansion titled Skyline Valley.
This free update expands on Appalachia for the first time, and also includes plenty of fresh content to sink your teeth into. So let's review everything we know about the game's Skyline Valley Update so far, from details on Public Events to how to access the Public Test Server.
Do we know when the Skyline Valley Update goes live?
All we currently know is that the Skyline Valley Update is scheduled for June 2024!
However, if you own Fallout 76 on Steam, you can check out the update now by installing the Public Test Server (PTS), which will remain live for at least a couple of weeks into May.
What's included in the Skyline Valley Update?
New Region
The highlight of the Skyline Valley Update is a new region aptly named Skyline Valley, which is positioned south of the Savage Divide between the Ash Heap and the Cranberry Bog. This new region in Appalachia is modelled off of Skyline Drive, a National Parkway in Virginia's Shenandoah National Park.
New Public Events
The Skyline Valley Update also introduces some novel Public Events to Fallout 76. For example, in Dangerous Pastimes, you collect parts for storm chasers but eventually must contend with Charged creatures and a brand-new faction called the Lost.
The other Public Event featured in the Skyline Valley Update is titled Neurological Warfare. To experience this secretive event, you'll want to call in a nuke on Skyline Valley.
New Main Questline
Bethesda is keeping Skyline Valley's new Main Questline under wraps for the time being, but Vault Dwellers can get their first taste of it when Part 2 of the PTS releases in May.
Combat Rebalancing
In order to improve combat throughout Fallout 76, the developers plan to make continued adjustments to weapons and creatures over a series of updates. The Skyline Valley Update will include modifications to the Angler, Cave Cricket, Floaters, Gulper, Mutant Hound, and Protectron.
Furthermore, Bethesda has refined how the falloff for weapon damage at range is calculated in Fallout 76. This will boost all ranged weapons, but it especially benefits Shotguns and Pipe Guns, and you'll notice it most when engaging larger creatures like Deathclaws and Scorchbeasts.
How to join the Public Test Server
The PTS is only available to individuals who own Fallout 76 on Steam. If you have the game on Steam, you can join the PTS by opening your Steam library and installing the Fallout 76 Public Test Server.
That's everything we know so far about the Skyline Valley Update. Bethesda may have more surprises up their sleeves, but the contents of this guide make up the bulk of what players can expect from the 19th major update for Fallout 76.
