Everything we know about FIFA 22 Volta Football
FIFA 22 Volta Football will see many changes and improvements on the small-sided game, including a range of FIFA 22 Volta Arcade Games.
FIFA 22 Volta Football is pulling out all of the stops to try and revive the minuscule FIFA Street-esque game mode that was first brought to us in the 2020 season. After two years with little success on the FIFA game mode which was supposed to allow players to relive the many hours poured into knuckle-ball game-breakers and flip-flipping with Ronaldinho, EA is continuing to diversify the palette in FIFA 22 Volta Football.
Instead of being a solo-focused game mode that weighed heavily on having full control of the street arenas, FIFA 22 Volta Football is flipping the script on its head and favouring what football is all about: teammates and friendship. Heading into FIFA 22, Volta Football will see a range of "Arcade" games added, a new Skill Meter, and a revamped Seasons journey.
New game modes for Volta Arcade
This year, EA has stripped FIFA 22 Volta Football back to its grassroots, instead of the flashy Hollywood mould they previously attempted to bring across.
The developers are adding a very jumpers-for-goalposts approach to FIFA 22 Volta Football, where players can have a kickabout on the streets like millions of kids do around the world.
Eight party games will be added to Volta Arcade, all of which will pit teams of two against each other that are all perfect for a light-hearted multiplayer experience.
Dodgeball
Dodgeball is all fun and games when you throw the ball, but with your feet, it's much more thrilling. Duck and dive around the arena to swerve incoming finesse shots and low-driven piledrivers.
Foot Tennis
PE has never been more of a blast than when the Tennis racquets were discarded and the footies came out to play Foot Tennis. This Volta Arcade game is one for the ages and the rules are as simple as 'clear the net'.
Disco Lava
As one of the less-rustic arcade games, players will be tasked to dribble over certain illuminated squares of a grid, almost like a game of tic-tac-toe.
Quick Strike
FIFA's own twist on Hungry Hippo's in reverse. Four players will be on the inside of a rotating ring of goals like a Mexican standoff and will be tasked with hitting the illuminated net before their opponents. First to the trigger wins.
Wall Ball Elimination
Wallie! The perfect playground game is coming to FIFA 22 Volta Arcade. In this elimination game, the target is to kick the ball against a wall before time runs out. Simple, yet tricky when your opponents place a well-executed shot.
Team Keepaway
A glorified version of the standard Sunday League warm-up, Team Keepaway adds a competitive edge to boxed-based possession. The goal is to keep the ball and collect trophies in the process.
Target Gallery
This Volta Arcade game is like Quidditch and Free Kick practice combined. The objective is to smash your ball through rings and into the four-man walls that rotate around the circle. Points will be awarded for the most accurate player.
Corner Scramble
Each player has their own corner, and the objective is to secure the ball and score in your own net. Players will scramble for possession in a free-for-all mode to avoid big tackles and jockeying goalkeepers.
What is changing with the new skill meter?
Instead of having a simple 3v3 game where it turned into a minuscule version of the sweat-fest on standard game modes, EA has now opted to hone in on the aspect of creativity, skill and flair.
The addition of a new Skill Meter will allow players to score more than one goal with a single effort in the back of the net.
By using skills and fancy footwork to build up your FIFA 22 Volta Football Skill Meter, you can end up banging one in the top bins that can secure up to four goals, rather than one.
The Skill Meter has four tiers worth 1,000 points each, and can be filled by pulling off tricks and flicks. Whether you're a tiki-taka passer or solo skillster, the meter can be filled by anyone. Once you surpass 1,000 skill points without scoring, your next goal will be worth two, and so on until you can pop a rabona across the line worth four goals.
- Making a fancy pass fills up the bar by 100
- A successful wall pass awards 200
- Beating an opponent using a Skill Move is 300
- Nutmeg an opponent for 800
- Dispossessing the other team awards 100.
Signature Abilities
Within the small-sided games, players will now be able to select a Signature Ability that will help with a specific element of their gameplay. With three to choose from that all affect different roles, here are the FIFA 22 Volta Football new Signature Abilities.
Power Strike
Harness that classic Gamebreaker that stems from FIFA Street, with this new FIFA 22 Volta Football Signature Ability. Much like we used to do with Peter Crouch rocketing a thunderbolt into the slimline nets, this ability allows for a supercharged strike of the ball that will burn a hole in the goalies' gloves.
Pure Pace
One for the sweats of the game, Pure Pace is a FIFA 22 Volta Football Signature Ability that will have your players burning down the wing and creating chances at will. The ability will add a pace boost that can see players exceed the 99 attribute cap, becoming a true speed demon.
Aggressive Tackle
Old-school online FIFA players will remember when Akinfenwa and Eminike were thrown up against Elokobi and Samba, as heavyweights collided in a battle of brute force, before the pace merchants took over. Now, FIFA 22 Volta Football is bringing back the importance of strength and solid defending with the Aggressive Tackle Special Ability that allows players to put their foes on the weights.
What are Volta Seasons in FIFA 22?
Contrary to the online game mode with the same name in FIFA 22, the Volta Seasons will not be a specific league, rather more of a battle pass feature.
Much like the rewards system in Ultimate Team, players can use the Volta Season's pass to unlock increasingly cool drip for your characters and a range of XP boosts.
The system will be purely cosmetic, but will have you sweating swag all over the courts.
FIFA 22 Volta Football will be available upon launch, and will offer hilarious small-teamed moments in a relaxed vibe. Strap on your Jordans and futuristic Adidas kagools and hocus pocus your way to Volta supremacy.
