While Final Fantasy 16 features many new mechanics, most of the gameplay is derived from the franchise's previous entries, with one of the most noticeable ones being Limit Break - so figuring out how to use it is vitally important.

Whether you are a new player or a franchise veteran, figuring out how Limit Breaks work will definitely improve your gameplay experience and efficiently tackle any challenge you encounter in terms of mobs and bosses.

Limit Break is a Semi-Prime state where Clive's battle performance is improved for a short duration of time. This means his attacks deal more damage with a bonus of self-heal that allows players to regain some of the lost health whilst dealing massive damage.

To use the Limit Break ability all you need to do is press the L3 + R3 button simultaneously when the Limit Break gauge is full. The gauge can be found in the top left underneath your current level and next to the selected Eikon.

Typically the bar will be split into segments, and you can use it as soon as the first part is full - although leaving the gauge to fill will extend the duration of the Limit Break.

You can unlock the Limit Break ability by progressing the game's campaign, specifically during the Infernal Shadow boss fight at the near end of the Buried Memories main quest.

During the fight, two Limit Break gauges appear for the first time below Clive's HP meter, introducing you to the Limit Break ability. After the fight, you can progress the game further to get an extra Limit Break gauge.

I'd recommend using the Limit Break ability once an enemy is staggered, as during that time, you can unleash all sorts of combos and heavy attacks without worrying about the opponent dodging your attacks or attacking you.

Apart from that, it's also great to use Limit Break when you're low on HP and have run out of healing items. This is due to the self-heal nature of the ability, but it can also be a way for you to push through the last stages with some extra damage.
