Choosing the right graphical display for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth between the Graphics or Performance-focused modes is a tough choice to make when first picking up the game

In the case of FF7 Rebirth, however, there are a couple of factors that might make picking the right mode for you an especially close call before playing.

FF7 Rebirth Graphics vs Performance mode

In general, the Performance mode is currently the best option to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with. However, that’s only by a thin margin given the lackluster performance of the namesake mode when compared to Graphics before the latest patch.

Performance mode, the best Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth graphical mode

Before the Junon demo patch which improved Performance mode’s well, performance, the much blurrier visual clarity in both big open environments and even in cutscenes made Graphics mode a must.

As the game stands in its up-to-date form though, the mildly improved sharpness in addition to 60FPS combat makes for the right balance in enjoying gameplay, exploration, and story content altogether.

On the other hand, the drop in image quality compared to Graphics mode is still very noticeable, especially in those larger spaces where you can easily spot muddier-looking assets in the distance.

Which graphical mode should you play with?

The best FF7 Rebirth graphics mode for you simply comes down to what you prefer: do you prefer smoother combat, or higher resolution to pair with cutscenes and environments?

Sure, you can switch modes in the main menu whilst you explore, but it’s a pain having to do that between every fight with a boss or a bunch of enemies. If having shinier objects and environments isn’t your biggest priority but still aren't a fan of choppy frame rates, Performance mode will still be the best choice for you.

Alternatively, if Rebirth’s story and massively immersive world are what’s drawing you in, you’ll want to go with Graphics mode to get properly sucked in with that crisp 4K resolution.
