Can you believe how quickly the time has flown by? Fortnite is currently celebrating its seventh birthday with a few in-game events, and you’re even able to thank the trusty bus driver on your way into a match.

Here’s how you can do just that to complete one of Fortnite’s current in-game challenges.

How to thank the bus driver in Fortnite

Here are the buttons you need to press to thank the bus driver depending on which platform you play on:

  • PC: B
  • Xbox: D-Pad down
  • PlayStation: D-Pad down
  • Nintendo Switch: D-Pad down
  • Mobile: Emote button in the top right corner of the screen

This is the same button that you’d usually use to thank the bus driver in a normal match, but it’s been reworked for Fortnite’s birthday to wish them many happy returns.

Wishing the Bus driver a happy birthday in Fortnite

I’ve tried to figure out just how many drop-offs the Fortnite bus driver has performed in their seven-year tenure, and the numbers are mind-boggling to crunch. A report in 2020 estimated that players had spent around 10.4 million years playing Fortnite in total, and that was only three years into its tenure.

Suppose we assume that the playtime has roughly doubled since 2020, and account for a Fortnite match lasting for around 20 minutes. We can then crudely estimate that the Fortnite bus driver has performed in excess of 536 billion bus routes over Fortnite Island.

So, keep this number in mind every time you think about dropping from the Battle Bus without giving the driver a thank you, and be sure to wish them a happy birthday!
