A weekly quest from Week 2 of Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 tasks you with recruiting either five characters or defeated henchman. While this sounds easy on paper, there are a few nuances you need to be aware of before embarking on this one.
How to hire characters in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4
To hire a character in the latest Fortnite season, all you need to do is walk up to them and interact with them. It’ll cost you a few Gold Bars to add them to your party, so make sure you’ve got a few saved up.
The latest Marvel-themed season added a few new NPCs for you to hire, which we've covered in a separate guide.
Once you've hired five of these characters across several matches, you'll complete the weekly quest.
Currently, this is the only way to complete the quest, as I'll explain in the next section.
Can you recruit a defeated henchman?
When Chapter 5 Season 4 first launched, there was a gameplay mechanic that allowed you to recruit downed henchmen into your party. To do this, you needed to get a henchman in a downed state, walk up to them, and interact with them, This would see them follow you around for the remainder of the match, or until they were defeated by other players.
However, Epic Games clearly saw this feature as a little too overpowered when it first launched, as it swiftly disabled the feature shortly after launch. As such, it's currently impossible to recruit defeated henchmen.
It appears that the weekly quests haven't been updated accordingly, as this particular quest for Week 2 still references the disabled mechanic. Still, at least we can fall back on hiring other NPCs in the meantime - otherwise, we really would have been stuck!
If Epic does re-enable the ability to hire defeated henchmen, you'll be able to use that method to complete the challenge once more. You might just need to wait a few weeks for that to happen.
