Buried Chests are nothing new to Fortnite, but have you ever heard of Ghost Buried Chests? New in Fortnitemares 2023, you can find the ghost of Fortnite's most notorious pirate, Blackheart, and the dreaded pirate captain will point you toward some of his treasure. This primer details where to find and how to search Ghost Buried Chests in the free-to-play battle royale from Epic Games.

Where to find Ghost Buried Chests in Fortnite
While you can find Ghost Buried Chests across Asteria, the majority of the Ghost Buried Chests are stashed on the southern half of the Island. The Teal Foothills Biome, in particular, is home to quite a few Ghost Buried Chests. Shattered Slabs and Frenzy Fields also have the potential to host a couple of Ghost Buried Chests.

How to find and search Ghost Buried Chests in Fortnite
Not every Buried Chest is a Ghost Buried Chest! Regular Treasure Chests are back in Fortnite, too, but they're far more common than Ghost Buried Chests. To qualify as a Ghost Buried Chest, there must be a ghost pointing toward the Buried Chest.
As you wander the Island, you will occasionally encounter the ghost of Blackheart pointing menacingly. He won't hurt you, though, he just wants you to find his treasure! If you go in the direction the ghost is pointing, you will discover a hole with a Ghost Buried Chest partially sticking out. Use your Pickaxe to dig out the Ghost Buried Chest, and the loot inside is yours!
Despite the name, Ghost Buried Chests don't look any different than standard Chests. Ghost Buried Chests have a greater chance of containing high-tier loot, but besides that, the only difference is the classification for the Fortnitemares 2023 Quests.
