Fortnite is one of the most popular games around, and the Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular consoles of all time. What makes the Switch so good is how you can take it on the go with you, the perfect marriage for Fortnite - especially if you don’t want to play it on your phone.
Below we'll go over whether or not the game is available on Nintendo's hybrid console, so you can enjoy the latest update, the dances, and collabs wherever you go.
Is Fortnite on Switch?
The good news is that Fortnite is available on the Nintendo Switch. And just like with every other platform the game is available on, the Battle Royale from Epic Games is free to play.
You will need to spend money if you want to access extra skins, cosmetic items, and the seasonal Battle Pass though.
How to play Fortnite on Switch?
Playing Fortnite on Switch is pretty simple. First off you will need to download the game, and you can do this by:
- Visiting the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch device
- Searching for Fortnite
- Downloading the game for free
- Once the download is complete, you can jump right in!
Once you fire up Fortnite, you will be asked to log into your Epic Account. If you don’t have one already, don’t worry as you can set that up here.
From there, choose which game mode you want to play and jump in. The game works in handheld or docked mode - just remember that you'll need to be connected to the internet at all times otherwise it won't work.
In my experience, Fortnite runs fine on Switch, but it's worth remembering that it's not as powerful as Xbox or PlayStation consoles, so it won't look as good as it does on those. It can also take quite a while to load up.
Finally, if you want to optimise your game and score a Victory Royale, the Pro Controller is a big improvement over the Joy-Con setup.
That’s all you need to know about playing Fortnite on the Switch, if you’re returning to the game after a while, here's everything that has returned as part of the OG map, as well as all the weapons that have come back. For more helpful guides, check out our Fortnite homepage.
