Love or hate the design of the Tesla Cybertruck, you can now unlock it for free in Fortnite and Rocket League.
As part of Fortnite’s Summer Road Trip event, there’s a collection of challenges for players to complete which will net them the unmistakable car without spending a penny. In fact, there’s a much easier and quicker way to unlock the car in Fortnite if you don’t mind playing a bit of Rocket League…
Of course, there’ll be an option to purchase the Cybertruck for V-Bucks later down the line, but I’ll lay out exactly how you can get it without spending anything below.
Unlocking the Tesla Cybertruck in Fortnite
You’ll need to complete all nine Summer Road Trip quests to unlock the Tesla Cybertruck for free in Fortnite. While this sounds easy, it appears that there will be a fair amount of grinding to do over the next few days, as the requirements are quite high.
You’ll also need to wait a few days as a new challenge is being unlocked each day until July 31. As such, you won’t be able to speedrun this unlock in one go.
Quest | Requirement | Release date |
Earn XP in Creator Made Islands | 60,000 | July 23 |
Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Festival | 60,000 | July 24 |
Earn XP in Creator Made Islands | 60,000 | July 25 |
Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Festival | 60,000 | July 26 |
Earn XP in Creator Made Islands | 60,000 | July 27 |
Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Festival | 60,000 | July 28 |
Earn XP in Creator Made Islands | 60,000 | July 29 |
Earn XP with a party in Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, or Festival | 60,000 | July 30 |
Earn XP in Creator Made Islands | 60,000 | July 31 |
Most of the challenges above task players to earn XP within a Creator Mode, which rules out playing the traditional Battle Royale experience.
If you’ve got a favourite Creator Mode that nets you plenty of XP, then feel free to use that one. If you’re used to just playing Battle Royale, however, I recommend playing Reload, which is a very similar experience to Battle Royale but on a smaller scale.
Once you’ve completed all nine of the Summer Road Trip quests, you’ll unlock the Tesla Cybertruck car body as part of a themed bundle. Also included are several decals, a set of wheels, and the ‘Beast Mode’ boost.
While the last challenge unlocks on July 31, you'll have until August 6 to complete them all and earn the car for yourself. After that, you'll need to purchase it with V-Bucks.
Unlocking the Tesla Cybertruck in Rocket League
If unlocking the Cybertruck in Fortnite sounds like an insurmountable challenge for you, there’s another way you can get your hands on it for free by playing Rocket League.
If you load up Rocket League, you can unlock the same Cybertruck bundle by completing three event challenges.
Quest | Reward | Release Date |
Playing 8 Online Matches | Cyber Wheels | July 23 |
Play 8 Online Matches with your Cyber Wheels equipped to unlock the Beast Mode Cybertruck Boost! Boost Mode | Beast Mode Cybertruck Boost | July 26 |
Play 5 Online Matches in a party with the Beast Mode Boost equipped |
|
July 31 |
This seems to be a much faster way to achieve the Cybertruck, as you only need to complete three challenges instead of nine. However, same as Fortnite, new challenges are getting released over the course of the next week. You'll still need to wait until July 31 to unlock the full Cybertruck set.
The items are cross-compatible between Rocket League and Fortnite, too. As long as you’re logged into the same Epic Games account for each game, you’ll unlock the car body in both titles.
When can you purchase the Tesla Cybertruck for V-Bucks?
If you really don’t fancy earning the Cybertruck by playing either Fortnite or Rocket League, then you’ll be able to purchase the bundle for V-Bucks from August 6.
The amount of V-Bucks it will cost has not yet been revealed, but we’ll update this article when we learn more.
