With the God of War PS5 upgrade, Sony Santa Monica's hit 2018 action-adventure looks better than ever. Although still a PS4 title, the PlayStation 5's backwards compatibility takes the gameplay experience of God of War to the next level, courtesy of the game's 1.35 update that was released in early 2021. Whether you're playing for the first time, or are revisiting Kratos and Atreus' first adventure before the release of God of War Ragnarok, here is what comes with the God of War PS5 upgrade.

God Of War PS5 Upgrade - What Is It?

Titled the "Enhanced Performance Experience", the free God of War PS5 upgrade provides PlayStation 5 users with a new default video setting that targets a super-smooth 60FPS. Combined with the newly implemented 4K Checkerboard Resolution, the PS5 update essentially combines the best of the two graphics modes available with the PS4 Pro version - only boosting resolution or the framerate respectively. Utilising the current-gen hardware, the upgrade makes this last-gen masterpiece feel like a PlayStation 5 launch title.

This also brings God of War 2018 up to speed with the performance of God of War Ragnarok, which shows improvements over the original in many ways. Most notably, Ragnarok keeps the same aesthetic feel of God of War 2018 but takes off the training wheels somewhat.

Whilst Ragnarok isn't an open-world affair, the controlled sandbox areas translate great into the faster pace of the highly anticipated sequel to the God of War PS5 upgrade. Long story short, it's a technical showcase for the PlayStation 5 that builds on the upgrades of the God of War PS5 Upgrade.

That's everything that comes with the God of War PS5 upgrade. With the God of War Ragnarök release date fast approaching as well, it's the perfect time to get back into the 2018 critical darling before the sequel launches on PlayStation consoles
