Your Rage meter is an important part of the combat system, so it's important to know how to increase your max Rage to make the most of it. Rage is a returning feature from the last God of War game and sees Kratos explode into a fiery rampage as he beats his opponents to a pulp with his bare fists.

Increasing your maximum Rage meter allows Kratos to stay in this violent mode for longer, so it's definitely worth looking out for ways to upgrade this particular skill. Keep reading to find out exactly how to increase the max Rage in God of War Ragnarok.

How to increase your max Rage

There is only one way that you can increase your max Rage meter, and that's to find Horn of Blood Mead items scattered across the Nine Realms. This is the exact same method that we saw in the last God of War game, except that the rate at which you unlock Rage upgrades has increased.

Previously, you would need to find three Horns of Blood Mead to upgrade your Rage meter once. In total, there were nine Horns of Blood Mead, meaning you upgraded your Rage meter three times throughout the course of the game.

You unlock a Rage upgrade when you first find one Horn of Blood Mead, then again when you find two, then again when you find three, and so on. While this means it will take longer to unlock Rage upgrades in the later half of the game, it does make it easier to become powerful more quickly in the early stages of the game.

Where can you find Horns Of Blood Mead?

Horns of Blood Mead are stored in ornate gold chests that are usually locked behind a runic puzzle. Keep an eye out on your travels for these chests. Once you've found one, look nearby to find either a set of bells or braziers - these must either be destroyed or set alight to open the chest.

Our best advice for finding these chests is to simply explore everywhere. God of War Ragnarok doesn't punish the player for straying from the beaten path, so it's definitely worth the short detour for the reward it gives you. In addition, we found several of the Horns of Blood Mead while completing 'Favour' side quests - these can be a good place to start.

Here's everything you need to know about parrying in God of War Ragnarok.
