The Valhalla mode in God of War Ragnarok sees you fight the real Tyr a number of times, but you need to beat him a specific amount to actually complete the DLC. Here's how many times you'll take him on.
How to beat Valhalla
In total, you will need to defeat Tyr four times to complete the story of Valhalla.
The fight with Tyr is his way of getting Kratos to reflect and think about his past. This is why it takes so many attempts, as inner peace isn't acquired quickly, especially for an ex-God of War.
The first time you fight Tyr he will use a Greek spear and shield combo. In the second fight, he appears to wield a Macuahuitl, a Mesoamerican weapon. In the third fight, Tyr busts out a pair of khopeshes, an ancient Egyptian style of sword. His final weapon is a katana from Japan, rounding out his world trip of iconic weapons.
Defeating Tyr for a fourth time will allow Kratos to open the doors and finally confront his younger self. With the story of Valhalla completed, you are free to tackle the mode as often as you want, and each time Tyr will wield a different one of his four weapons.
