God of War is critically renowned not just for an emotionally gripping story, but also for its gameplay, beautiful world, and the additional challenges that came with it. The Valkyries, the game's set of nine optional bosses, are well known for their varying degrees of difficulty and the brutality that can be dealt to the unprepared.
Nevertheless, finding and defeating the eight Valkyries - followed by their Queen, Sigurd - is essential for completionists looking to obtain the Chooser of the Slain trophy on PlayStation or the equivalent achievement on Steam. So, here is every location for all of the God of War Valkyries.
Where are the Valkyries in God of War Ragnarok?
Valkyrie Kara – Kara's is one of the easier Hidden Chambers of Odin to find, being underneath Freya's/the Witch's cave in The River Pass. Head to the area of blue light bridges from the elevator, cross the bridge, and then the Hidden Chamber will be atop a climbable wall.
Valkyrie Gunnr – This is another easy God of War Valkyrie to find. Right by Thamur's corpse, specifically his hand, the ice seal to Gunnr's Hidden Chamber will be visible from the dock you start from when visiting the area. Even if you don't notice the massive door, Atreus should point it out to you as you walk by.
Valkyrie Olrun – In Alfheim, take the boat from near Sindri's shop, row into the huge lake, and head left towards a dockable beach. Go into the tunnel ahead, and you'll see Olrun's Hidden Chamber of Odin at the end.
Valkyrie Geirdriful – In the Foothills, follow the path from Sindri's shop, follow the path up a cliff. As you proceed, you'll notice a fork in the road to go left or right. Take the right, and you'll soon find the ice seal to Geirdriful's chamber.
Valkyrie Hildr – Hildr is one of the more difficult God of War Valkyries to locate since you'll need to reach and navigate the labyrinth of Niflheim to find her - which you can only reach after finding all four Niflheim Language Cipher Pieces. Make sure your Kratos build is equipped with gear effects to lessen the damage taken by the poison mist and keep heading left as you battle your way through the labyrinth. Eventually, you'll reach Area X where Hildr resides.
Valkyrie Rota – Once you complete the mainline quest, The Sickness, you can return to Helheim and head towards the Bridge of the Damned. Follow a small bridge on the left which leads to a red sap wall. Destroy said wall and Rota's Hidden Chamber of Hidden will be found after taking a lift down.
Valkyrie Gondul – In Muspelheim, Gondul is an additional Valkyrie with a degree of difficulty to reach. First, you'll need to find all four pieces of the Muspelheim Language Cipher to reach the realm. Then, you must work your way through the five arenas taking on the various combat trials. The sixth and final challenge arena will follow, taking on Gondul herself.
Valkyrie Eir – At the Heart of the Mountain within, well, The Mountain, head towards the mine area and go towards the back. Then, you'll spot the large door and ice seal to Eir's Hidden Chamber of Odin, on the right next to the elevated platform with the wheel.
Where is Queen Sigrun?
Now you've found and defeated the eight Valkyries, it's time to take on their queen. To find and battle Sigrun, you must go to the Valkyrie Council in Midgard and place the helms of each fallen Valkyrie on their throne. A realm tear will appear, and Sigrun will attack you as soon as you interact with it. Defeat her, and the Chooser of the Slain trophy/achievement is yours.
That's all of the locations of the God of War Valkyries. Fighting these optional bosses is great practice for the upcoming God of War Ragnarök release date, fast approaching release on PlayStation consoles. In the meantime, the 2018 game still looks incredible four years on, especially thanks to the free God of War PS5 upgrade.
