Regarded as one of the best games of all time, it's no surprise that more gamers might want to try 2018's God of War to see what all the fuss is about. Sadly, not all players have a PS4, PS5, or even a PC which boasts the recommended specs. For the God of War Xbox dreamers out there, it turns out that Sony Santa Monica's hit title on an Xbox is technically a possibility - even though it's not in the way most would have hoped for.

Is God Of War On Xbox?

Natively, no. There is no God of War Xbox port. However, playing God of War on Xbox consoles was made possible through streaming of the PC port on Steam and the Epic Games Store which was released in January 2022.

The key is GeForce Now, Nvidia's gaming streaming service which the PC version of God of War joined in late April. Made compatible with Microsoft's Edge browser, Xbox owners are since able to access their Steam libraries and stream them right to the console. On Xbox, Microsoft Edge even has mouse and keyboard support, therefore also be the case for games accessed through GeForce Now.

In turn, these 1000+ accessible games included God of War. So, the hit PlayStation console exclusive was technically made playable through playing the PC port via Edge Browser on Xbox.

God Of War Xbox - Does It Still Work?

Yes, but sadly not for everyone. As confirmed by an update from Nvidia in June 2022, God of War had its GeForce Now support pulled from July 1st due to the publisher, Sony Interactive Entertainment, deciding to opt out of the service.

However, because of GeForce Now's opt-in process, the God of War PC port is still playable via GeForce Now - thus also on the browser on Xbox - on a legacy basis. This means if you had played the game at least once, which is minimally defined as loading it up and landing on the main menu, Nvidia confirmed you will still have access going forward.

So, if you or someone you know for example had played God of War via GeForce Now on another device, you'll still be able to play the game on your Xbox via the Microsoft Edge browser. Furthermore, if the publisher ever decides to opt back into the service, God of War on Xbox will again be possible for the wider base of console owners as well.

That's everything you need to know on God of War Xbox compatibility. The next game, God of War Ragnarok, has its release date just around the corner on PlayStation consoles. If you're looking to play God of War before the sequel, the 2018 game looks better than ever on PlayStation 5 thanks to the free God of War PS5 upgrade
