HIGHLIGHTS:
- God Mode gives you an instance 20% damage reduction buff
- This buff increases by 2% each time you die, capping out at 80%
- You should enable God Mode if you're struggling the combat in Hades 2
Just like the first game, Hades 2 has a God Mode in the settings that can make the game much, much easier. While the game’s combat is tailored to be tricky but masterable, there’s no getting around the fact that the game can be quite hard at times - especially with some of the later bosses.
For players who just want to experience the story of Hades 2, God Mode can make the combat considerably easier, and ultimately provide a more enjoyable experience. Here’s what you need to know about God Mode in Hades 2, and why you should consider using it yourself.
What does God Mode do?
In the Gameplay menu, the God Mode setting has the description, “Instantly makes you tougher, more so whenever you fail.”
If you enable this setting, Melinoë is granted a 20% damage resistance buff, which reduces the amount of damage she takes from incoming attacks. While this instantly makes the game much easier, if you leave God Mode on, the game will only get easier the more that you die.
With God Mode enabled, the damage resistance buff is increased by 2% each time you die. This stacks each time you die, with the first game capping out at 80%.
You’ll still deal the same amount of damage to enemies, so God Mode doesn’t affect how quickly you take down enemies. However, it will make combat much more forgiving if you’re having trouble dodging incoming attacks.
How to enable God Mode
To turn God Mode on in Hades 2, head to the pause menu and dive into the Gameplay tab. Here, you’ll see God Mode appear as the first option on the list with a toggle box. Click on God Mode to enable the toggle box and the mode will be activated when you return to the game.
If you decide to turn God Mode off again, you can do so in the same way. The damage reduction stacking effect will be retained if you disable and re-enable God Mode once again, so don’t worry about experimenting a little if you start to feel more confident!
Why should you use God Mode in Hades 2?
If you’re struggling at all with the combat in Hades 2 to the point where it’s affecting your enjoyment of the game, you should definitely consider enabling God Mode. There’s a rich story in Hades 2, told by the fantastically voiced cast of characters. It would be a shame to miss out on that aspect of the game if the tricky combat is weighing you down.
There’s no shame in making the game a little easier if it means you enjoy the game more, especially as you’re still engaging with the same gameplay systems whether you play with God Mode on or off.
What’s more, there are essentially no consequences for using God Mode in Hades 2. In early access, there are no achievements to unlock, and the first game didn’t lock those achievements away for players who used God Mode. It would be surprising if Supergiant decided to lock achievements for God Mode players this time around.
So, if you want to make the game a little easier, or just get used to the combat a little more before turning God Mode off, it’s a setting that’s worth considering for your Hades 2 playthrough.
