Will Hogwarts Legacy Have Microtransactions?
Warner Bros has had a turbulent history with microtransactions and its players. The most divisive was the implementation of in-game purchases in Shadow of War, a sequel to the Lord of the Rings-inspired Shadow of Mordor, which alternatively did not have microtransactions and was a hit success. After the criticism it received, Warner Bros consequently removed the microtransactions 6 months after the initial game release.
Hogwarts Mystery also had criticism surrounding the hard energy limits and microtransactions implemented to get more energy.
The infamous devil snare screenshot quickly did the rounds across social media and seemed to promote the idea that players would have to pay a microtransaction to save a child from being grappled, a direct metaphor for the stranglehold that microtransactions have on otherwise good games and the people that play them.
With the conflicting relationship between what is seen as pay-to-win mechanics and gamers, Community Manager for Avalanche Studios, Chandler Wood was quick to put the rumours to rest. He released a Tweet simply stating:
With many sharing the Tweet and voicing support for this decision, it seems as though Hogwarts Legacy will refrain from traditional mobile money-making practices. Portkey Games further this point on their page by saying:
“Hogwarts Legacy does not have in-game purchases or micro-transactions” So, there we have it. So far, there is no indication that Hogwarts Legacy will have in-game purchases and microtransactions, much to the delight of many fans.
