MiHoYo is aiming for the long term in their latest gacha game, Honkai: Star Rail, with more missions being added and regular updates, patches, and bug fixes, the storage needed for your devices is bound to increase. So, it is essential to keep tabs on it.

Here, we'll be going over all the storage requirements the game needs for its current platforms, as well as a rundown of what you can expect going forward - so read on.

How much storage does the game take on PC and mobile?

As of Version 1.1.0 of Honkai: Star Rail, which was updated in June 2023, the default game takes up around 30GB on PC and 15GB on mobile devices

For a game the size of Honkai: Star Rail, this is a pretty reasonable storage expectation at for mobile, however, this is only going to get larger with time. Given Genshin Impact's notoriously large file sizes, expect the PC version of Honkai: Star Rail to rise significantly in coming updates as well.

At the time of writing, Honkai: Star Rail is not yet on consoles. However, a PlayStation port is expected to release toward the end of 2023, so we will update with those specifications as well.

What is Honkai: Star Rail?

Honkai: Star Rail is the latest title in the Honkai franchise, following on from MiHoYo’s previous Honkai title, Honkai Impact 3rd. As with its predecessors, Honkai: Star Rail is a gacha game, meaning the grind to get ahead is at the forefront.

A small back alley in Honkai: Star Rail

Much like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail follows the games-as-service model, meaning that it will be continuously updated with more content and updates. These updates will likely range from main story expansions to standard quality-of-life changes and bug fixes.

With this in mind, the game is ultimately going to expand in memory.

You can find out here if there is a Nintendo Switch release of Honkai: Star Rail in the works.
