What Does Loss Prevented Mean In League Of Legends?
The loss prevented feature in League of Legends allows a players loss to be forgiven (meaning they don't receive any of the negative effects of it, such as losing a rank or lowered win/loss ratio) when it's out of their control.
The loss prevention is decided by a mechanic called Compensation Mode, which kicks in when an issue affects a large number of players on a system-wide scale. Riot activates a switch called "The Button" if the criteria are met, and Compensation Mode is activated.
The mode essentially changes the rules governing how a loss affects a player, and Riot Games also provide a full list of all the changes that occur. You'll also know when the mode is activated, as in your match history, games affected by Compensation Mode will say "loss prevented."
Here are the rules that are activated when Compensation Mode is switched on:
- Players will not receive a loss or leave.
- Players will not lose League Points (LP) or MMR.
- Players will still receive a win at a 50% rate for LP/MMR gains.
- Players will not receive a loss if they are in the middle of their promo series.
- Players will receive all of the earned XP for the game.
- Stats will be recorded and saved for games, but they will not apply for any lifetime totals.
That's all for our explainer of the Compensation Mode, and now you know what loss prevented means in League of Legends.
