There are new combat features in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth which take what was great in the previous game and improve upon it. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the second game in this new direction for the franchise, bringing new characters, new jobs, and so much more.

The new combat mechanics round out the combat system and make the game's combat much more interactive and engaging. Here are the new combat features in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Movement and directional attacks

The first and most notable change is that you can now move your characters during combat in LaD: Infinite Wealth. In the previous game, you had no control over the positioning of your characters, meaning you would have to strategise around your lack of movement. Now, your characters have a set area they can move around, an area which increases in size as they level up.

This factor is important for several reasons. Primarily, for the new proximity and back-attack bonuses. If your character can move to within a short distance of an enemy, their regular attack will do more damage, and may even have bonus effects. For example, Kiryu's grapple from a distance is a simple throw, but in close proximity he picks up the opponent and spins them around, dealing damage to nearby enemies as well.

Back-attacks are as they sound, attacking an enemy from behind. As you can move around and line up your hits, you can do extra damage by hitting an opponent from behind. All of this positioning also applies to your skills, as you can now see where they will land and exactly who they will affect.

Some skills attack in a straight line, some have circular areas of effect, and with each, you can see where they will land so you can line up as many enemies as possible.

Knockback, grapples & Perfect Guard

Speaking of lining enemies up, when you target an enemy with an attack that will knock them back, an arrow will appear showing you the direction they will be knocked in.

This is a core part of combat in Infinite Wealth, as knocking enemies into each other does a lot of damage, and knocking enemies into your teammates will give them a free attack on the opponent. Try to chain as many enemies as possible into each other or other party members, and you will demolish whole groups in no time.

As well as knockback attacks, grapples are incredibly important in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Some enemies will be guarding constantly, and only a grapple will break their guard. Other attacks will do very little to a guarding enemy (unless you can hit them from behind), so you make sure you have at least one or two grapple attacks in your party to deal with them.

Enemies are not the only ones who can defend themselves. While you can still set your characters to guard as an action on their turn, Perfect Guard is a new system that allows you to press the block button at the exact moment an attack lands on you to block it and take less damage. The timing is very precise, but this new system adds even more interactivity to the combat.

That is it for the new combat features in Infinite Wealth. For more, head to our Like a Dragon homepage where we have guides on levelling up quickly, making plenty of money, and how to improve your Personality and your bonds.
