The Marauders prestige system is rather unique in the extraction shooter subgenre, so it can be a bit difficult to get your head around at first - especially when it comes to the reasons why you would choose to do it. As Marauders is a game all about collecting loot and building a stash, throwing that all away at first seems incredibly counterintuitive. However, read on to find out all about the Marauders prestige system, including what it does and why you would want to do it in the first place.

What Is The Marauders Prestige System?

Marauders Prestige System Explained

In a sense, the closest thing to the Marauders prestige system is the wipes in Escape From Tarkov, but the key difference between the two is that the prestige system is voluntary, and you gain rewards from making the sacrifice.

When you reach level 40 in Marauders, you are given the option to either continue playing as normal, or to prestige and start again. There is nothing stopping you from continuing playing as normal, but the benefits you gain from prestiging - especially several times - arguably outweigh the loot you might be holding on to. Regardless, you want all the XP that you're working hard to go somewhere, don't you?

Of course, prestiging comes with its own obvious downsides, as your progress is reset completely back to level one, alongside your entire inventory, so make sure to get over that gear fear and use the high-value items you have before you reach level 40.

The main benefit of the Marauders prestige system however comes in the form of prestige tokens, which can be used to unlock exclusive benefits to your character. Most of them cost multiple prestige tokens too, so you're definitely going to want to get grinding.

Marauders Prestige Tokens: Where And How To Use

Marauders Prestige System Prestige Tokens

There are currently only three ways to use your Marauders prestige tokens, but you're going to need a lot of them if you want to unlock everything that is available. You can use your prestige tokens to unlock the following:

  • Extra ship slots
  • Extra inventory rows
  • Cosmetic unlocks

The extra ship slots come in three tiers at the moment, requiring five, ten, and a whopping twenty prestige tokens for subsequent singular expansions. You're going to get your hands on a hefty chunk of XP if you want to have a fully expanded ship bay, but it will definitely be worth it if you have a penchant for stealing frigates.

Extra inventory rows are always going to be helpful, especially if you're a successful marauder who often makes it out with fresh gear and loot. You'll only need to get your hands on ten prestige tokens overall if you want to fully expand your inventory, giving you access to eight extra rows for 80 cells if you want to look at it that way.

Each new extension gives you two additional rows, and costs one, two, three, and four tokens respectively. Do be careful to not let gear fear overcome you with the additional space though, and remember to always use the gear you have, otherwise there's no reason to keep it in the first place.

Finally, there is only one cosmetic unlock that is tied to prestige tokens at the moment, and that is the SAS set for the body, which just required a single token to get access to. Most of the other cosmetics require a combination of your level, dollars, and skill points, so you can really show off to others if you manage to get a hold of this early.

So, that's everything you need to know about the Marauders prestige system, including details about how to get prestige tokens and what you can use them on. If you want more details on the Marauders ships however, make sure to have a read of our guide.
