Marvel Rivals is the new hero shooter on the block, bringing a number of Marvel heroes and villains and their unique abilities together to duke it out in objective-based modes.

It's still in a beta period, and there may be more at release, but the game currently features three modes of note. Let's see what they are.

All game modes

Convoy

Convoy in Marvel Rivals

Convoy is the game mode most associated with Overwatch, as it is essentially just the Payload mode.

In this mode, a team of attackers is tasked with escorting an object - such as the Spider-Zero robot in the image above - along a set path to its destination. The defenders on the other hand have to stop that from happening by disrupting the convoy and destroying the object.

Convergence

Convergence is reminiscent of King of the Hill, where the teams fight over a single point that changes locations after a set amount of time

Holding the point will increase your team's score, with the winners being the team with the most score after the timer runs out, or the team that hits the max threshold.

Domination

Domination in Marvel Rivals

In Domination, both teams are vying for a specific point on the map in a best-of-three set. It's all about which team can organise themselves the best and take the control point by being the only ones within the zone for a set period of time.

All lobbies

Marvel Rivals lobbies

In addition to these modes, there are also lobbies that are each slightly different:

  • Practice: Practice your abilities against AI
  • Quick Match: Standard ruleset for fun
  • Conquest: More casual with respawn at flexible locations
  • Competitive: A ranked mode for those looking to play with those at their skill level
  • Custom: Create your own lobbies and tweak the rules

The three current game modes can all be played in Quick Match, Pocket Universe, Competitive, and Custom.
