One of the biggest surprises at the Game Awards 2023 was the announcement of Marvel's Blade. Even more surprising is the fact that it is being developed by Arkane Lyon, the maker of Dishonored and Deathloop.

We don't have a lot of details as the game has only just been announced, and there's no indication of when it will launch yet, but here's everything we know so far about the upcoming Blade game.

Marvel's Blade trailer

News of the game's existence came with the Announcement Trailer revealed at The Game Awards. The trailer is a cinematic teaser, which shows Blade at a barber shop, getting his beard trimmed by a nervous barber. Then, a curfew kicks in as the sun goes down.

This prompts Blade to gear up with his classic trench coat, his glasses, his sword, and an arsenal of other weaponry. You can watch this trailer below.

Marvel's Blade story & gameplay details

Marvel's Blade sees the Daywalker take to the streets of Paris, specifically a quarantined section of the city. This lockdown has begun due to an outbreak of vampirism, for which there is only one cure: Blade. The game will feature an original story driven by Arkane's famously immersive gameplay.

Players will take control of the vampire hunter in a third-person, mature-themed single-player experience, hunting the undead across the city while the citizens shelter and pray for sunrise. There is more to this game than simple vampire slaying for the fun of it, though.

As a kid of mixed origins, I felt a special connection to Blade – a hero with a dual heritage himself, said Dinga Bakaba, Game Director, Arkane Lyon. “The opportunity to put our spin on this character is a dream of mine and a challenge that our team embraces with a passion. We couldn’t be happier to put players in Blade’s boots, as he becomes the champion of my hometown of Paris, one stake at a time.

Marvel's Blade looks to join this new wave of Marvel video games, like this year's Spider-Man 2 and the upcoming Wolverine, both from Insomniac Games, the latter also promised to be a mature-rated game.

Whether Blade will take place in the same universe as the Insomniac games remains to be seen, but regardless it is definitely a good time to be a Marvel-loving gamer.

That's everything we know so far about Marvel's Blade, coming from Arkane Lyon.
