As with any Call of Duty game, the campaign for Modern Warfare 3 is filled with action and has an ending that will undoubtedly have players curious about where the next game will be headed.

With Price, Shepherd, Soap, Makarov and such all fighting for power and survival, it’s only natural that the ending (or endings) of the game will see its fair share of bloodshed.

SPOILER WARNING: This guide may contain story spoilers, so be sure to proceed at your own risk to ensure details in the game remain a surprise.

How does Modern Warfare 3 end?

Makarov points a gun at the player, Price, in Modern Warfare 3

Following a tumultuous campaign that saw Makarov wreak havoc with Price hunting him, Graves returns from the dead, and ultimately turns on Shepherd for the world to see, Modern Warfare 3 ends with Soap’s death - a moment that veterans of the series will be all too familiar with.

In the original Modern Warfare 3, Soap’s death came quite a bit earlier in the campaign and served as a catalyst of sorts, motivating Price to ultimately hunt down and kill Makarov after the war’s end.

This version, however, sees Makarov escaping after killing Soap, with Price, Gaz and Ghost scattering his ashes as the final scene of the main campaign. With Makarov still out there, it could be a sign of stories to come and perhaps indicates at least one more entry in the Modern Warfare series.

A post-credit scene in MW3 explained

Captain Price points a silenced gun at General Shepherd in Modern Warfare 3

As the credits roll on MW3’s campaign, players will be treated to one more scene, featuring General Shepherd and Captain Price… and it doesn’t end well for Shepherd.

While sitting down alone, Price emerges from the darkness with a gun poised and ready at Shepherd, his presence there courtesy of Laswell. General Shepherd may have a gun strapped to the bottom of his desk, but it’s next to useless.

In no mood for exchanging more than a few words, Price shoots a quietly defiant Shepherd at point-blank range behind his desk, leaving him for the last time. With Shepherd out of the way, Makarov is the last villain standing.

That’s everything you need to know about the ending of Modern Warfare 3, so you can be as prepared as possible for the story ahead. The story of Modern Warfare 3 is certainly an interesting one, and you should certainly see if there is a No Russian-inspired mission in MW3.
