How to get Longshot Kills in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer
Craving the Mastery Camos? Learn what counts as a Longshot Kill, plus some tips and tricks for securing Longshot Kills in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer.
To the dismay of completionists, Longshot Kills are a thing again in Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer. Acquiring the Interstellar Camo in Modern Warfare 3 is a brutal grind, in part due to a few deceptively difficult challenges to secure Longshot Kills. This primer details exactly what counts as a Longshot Kill and how to get Longshot Kills in the game's Multiplayer component.
What distance counts as a Longshot Kill?
As you might imagine, Longshot Kills are awarded when you eliminate an enemy Operator from far away. However, what qualifies as a Longshot Kill in MW3 Multiplayer depends on what gun you're using. Naturally, killing an opponent from 15m out isn't as impressive with a Sniper Rifle as it is with a Shotgun.
Below is a list of all the weapon types in Modern Warfare 3 and how far away you need to be with a weapon in that category for your eliminations to count as Longshot Kills:
Weapon | Distance |
Shotguns | 15m |
Handguns | 20m |
SMGs | 35m |
Marksman Rifles | 40m |
LMGs | 40m |
Battle Rifles | 40m |
Assault Rifles | 40m |
Sniper Rifles | 55m |
How to get Longshot Kills
While you might occasionally get credit for a Longshot Kill while playing normally, you'll need to be deliberate about it if you want to earn those Gold Camos fast. Racking up Longshot Kills requires the right loadout and tactics!
As far as your loadout goes, equipping an Optic like the Angel-40 4.8x or the XTEN Angel-40 will make landing Longshot Kills way easier. These Optics feature a Target Range Indicator, so you can tell instantly if your target is far enough away to net you a Longshot Kill.
You can get Longshot Kills in any of the MW3 Multiplayer modes, but it's undoubtedly less painful in Hardcore. Enemies in Hardcore possess considerably less health than the opponents in traditional playlists, so you can take them out at a distance before they escape or close the gap and prevent you from securing a Longshot Kill.
If you can't stand Hardcore, Ground War is another prime mode for scoring Longshot Kills. While it'll take more bullets to finish your foes off, the massive maps and increased team sizes mean that you'll find yourself in plenty of long-range gunfights.
Regardless of your strategy, procuring Longshot Kills takes considerable time and effort. So, find a serviceable vantage point and get ready to dedicate at least a few hours to the task!
