After being released less than a month ago in beta, MultiVersus is already making its EVO 2022 debut. MultiVersus has taken the world by storm with almost 100,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, according to SteamDB (at the time of writing). That's huge for a new platform fighter. WB Games hopes to continue that momentum into EVO 2022, the biggest fighting game tournament in the world. Here's everything we know about MultiVersus at EVO 2022.

MultiVersus EVO 2022: A $100K MultiVersus Tournament
The main attraction for WB Games' plans of MultiVersus at EVO 2022 is a huge $100K tournament to see who's the best at the game. The top 32 players of the tourney will be given some form of cash for their efforts. Unlike many Super Smash Bros. tournaments, this will be focused on 2v2 combat rather than the traditional 1v1 battles of the past.
Despite MultiVersus not being one of the main games at EVO 2022, the side tournament is likely to draw attention. Big winners of past EVO tournaments from other games will be throwing their hats in the ring. One of the best Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players in the world, MKLeo, will be taking part in the tournament, and other praised players in the community will likely join him too like NYChrisG, SonicFox, and HoneyBee.
In addition to the prize money, Astro Gaming will be giving the top three teams of the tournament a MultiVersus-themed headset and PlayStation controller. The tweet that was sent out did not describe the model of either prize. The controller seems to be a C40 TR model, however. These will be given at the end of the event.
MultiVersus EVO 2022: Will There Be Any New Announcements?
From the messaging so far, WB Games has not confirmed there will be a new MultiVersus character announcement. Currently, we know of two characters that will be featured in Season 1, Rick and Morty (the latter of whom comes first). There could be a tease of what's to come after the release of these sci-fi heroes, but nothing has been announced or teased by the official MultiVersus accounts yet.
There is precedent for WB Games to announce new characters at fan-based events, however. At Comic-Con 2022, the developers announced during a panel that LeBron James (who is out now), Rick, and Morty will be joining the roster. We could see the same at EVO 2022 with a big character announcement.

Something to keep in mind is that the first season of content has been delayed by a month, so the publisher may not be ready to show a new hero or villain for the game. We still would love to see the leaked Gandalf in MultiVersus, however.
As EVO is a fighting game tournament, it would be easy to speculate that a Mortal Kombat character could become a part of MultiVersus. The series is owned by Warner Bros after all. On August 1, the creator of the series Ed Boon tweeted out, "Granted, I know nothing, but I'm personally excited to see what MultiVersus has in store for EVO!!" It could be Boon teasing his fans, or simply that there are no plans currently to bring the likes of Scorpion or Sub-Zero to the platform fighter yet.
