For years now, Sony has claimed PlayStation is the place to be to play Call of Duty. With Modern Warfare 2 now available out in the open for everyone, players all around the world are diving in, reportedly making it the highest-selling digital game in PlayStation history. The game is clearly building a massive player base, but many are wondering whether a PlayStation Plus is needed to play online.

With a multiplayer offering, co-op missions, and much more on the horizon, the alluring nature of Modern Warfare 2 is dragging in many new players. If you’re wondering if you need a PlayStation Plus membership to check out all these components of Modern Warfare 2, we have the answer for you.

Do You Need PlayStation Plus To Play MW2 Online?

To quickly address the elephant in the room, the answer is yes. You will need an active PlayStation Plus membership to play Modern Warfare 2 online. However, with PlayStation’s recent introduction of tier, this may be confusing which one you need. The answer to this is also simple, you only need the lowest tier, which is an Essential PlayStation Plus membership.

However, many players are eagerly anticipating the launch of Warzone 2.0 on November 16th. Since the original Warzone was free-to-play for all PlayStation players, it’s a big question whether the same will be happening this time around. Thankfully, the answer is yes, but players may be confused with its Modern Warfare 2 integration.

Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 players will share one singular battle pass, but if you don’t own a PlayStation Plus membership, you will only be able to play the Warzone 2.0 portion. Hopefully, this clears up any confusion you may have surrounding PlayStation Plus and Modern Warfare 2.
