Time is quickly ticking on for Modern Warfare 2 as the annual release Call of Duty clock is counting down towards the next instalment.

But that hasn't stopped Infinity Ward from preparing an action-packed Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 update, as the multiplayer side of things is set to be buffed again with some significant additions and changes.

So, ahead of the Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 release date, here's all you need to know about the maps, Operators, DMZ, and more.

When is the Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 release date?

The Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 release date is set for Wednesday, June 14, 2023, which is the same day as the in-game counter for the Season 3 Battle Pass comes to an end.

Seasonal updates usually occur at 5pm BST / 9am PT / 12pm ET, and there are no reports that MW2 Season 4 expects to divert from this trend.

What Operators are coming in Modern Warfare 2 Season 5?

Coming as an Operator in Modern Warfare 2 Season will be a returning character from the 2019 title, as dataminers have leaked Nikto as at least one familiar face that will be playable.

Usually, we have three new Operators that will populate the store and Battle Pass per season, so there may be two more to be leaked or revealed soon, which could include some more villains of the franchise like Graves or Makarov to coincide with the Vondel map in Warzone.

What are the new maps in Modern Warfare 2?

Call of Duty has also promised more multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare 2, although the final three of these that are planned will be "tailored for competitive".

The details of what the maps include are pretty scarce, however, Infinity Ward has also revealed that there will be a remastered map coming in Season 4 which has already been playtested and approved by the CDL pros. Could we finally be seeing Favela?

As usual, a new huge update means progress has to be bumped back for players, and Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 is no different.

DMZ players will be most upset to learn that their progress will be completely reset again in MW2 Season 4, meaning any contraband and keys will be returned to the playing field as Vondel comes into play and more areas become available to the extraction-based game mode.

Ranked players will also have a soft reset awaiting them, as they will be bumped back to the rank beneath where they ended Season 3, heading back to the first skill division too. For example, those in Diamond 3 will be reset back to Platinum 1, so now is your final chance to push through to Crimson.

You can expect more Modern Warfare 2 Season 4 leaks in the coming days, as Infinity Ward tends to drip feed news on their blog the week prior. But for now, keep an eye out on our Call of Duty homepage.
