What Are Dramatic Scenes In One Piece Odyssey?
Dramatic Scenes are a unique gameplay mechanic in One Piece Odyssey. Find out everything you need to know about them here.
Despite One Piece Odyssey’s use of a turn-based combat system - which has had a lot of fans worried up until its release - it actually manages to truly embrace the spirit of the manga. Sure, you can’t button-mash your way through waves of enemies like the Pirate Warrior titles, but it adds its own unique spin on things to keep everything fresh.
One such aspect is the introduction of Dramatic Scenes, which can really change the tide of a battle - especially if you’re not prepared for them. These are thrown at you fairly early in the game, and while an in-game tutorial does its best to teach you their ways, it can be overwhelming for new players. If you want to learn everything about Dramatic Scenes in One Piece Odyssey, you’ve come to the right place.

What Are Dramatic Scenes In One Piece Odyssey?
Just because One Piece Odyssey has adopted an old-school turn-based combat system reminiscent of titles such as Dragon Quest, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t aim to keep things interesting. On the contrary, the game does its best to spice things up and truly embrace the characters of One Piece.
In the case of Dramatic Scenes (or Dramatic Battles, as the game sometimes refers to them), you’ll have to change up your strategy when it comes to fighting. Firstly, these situations will occur randomly, but you will be notified when it’s happening, as hazard tape wraps the top and bottom of a screen before a fight starts.
When this happens, an objective will also appear on screen within the hazard tape. This can range from killing a certain enemy in one turn or ensuring a particular party member is not knocked out in the heat of battle. For the most part, they’re not overly challenging, but boss encounters may introduce specific conditions, such as taking the foe down with Luffy delivering the final punch.
It’s important to note that these are not compulsory, so don’t stress out too much if you feel you can’t meet the condition. Instead, they should be seen as random optional objectives that may occasionally appear in battles. Just because they’re optional though, that doesn’t mean you want to skimp out on completing them.
Every time you meet the requirements on one, you will be awarded additional XP for your efforts. During your time in One Piece Odyssey, especially in the early hours where things are much easier, this is something you’re going to really want to try and accomplish. It will allow you to quickly level up your Straw Hat crew and open up the game to more skills being unlocked.
Another factor to be aware of is that sometimes enemy attack levels may increase during fights, making them considerably tougher than before. If you feel you’re in a position where you could be knocked out in the fight, you always have the option to run from a fight. You can do this by opening the Tactics menu and selecting the Run Away option.
And that’s everything you need to know about Dramatic Scenes in One Piece Odyssey. It’s always in your best interest to try and achieve as many of these as possible, and before you know it, your party will quickly be overpowering their way through hordes of enemies.
