During a ‘What’s next?’ panel for Overwatch 2 at BizzCon 2023, Blizzard developers discussed some crucial changes that will be coming to the game’s Battle Pass system in 2024. While the Overwatch team wasn’t able to go too in-depth, and the information presented is still subject to change, it did divulge a key change that fans can look forward to next year.
Here’s what we know so far about all of the battle pass changes that will be coming to Overwatch 2 in 2024.
Mythic Skin unlocks are changing
Soon, players will be able to choose the Mythic Skin that they unlock upon completing the premium reward track of the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass.
At the moment, each Battle Pass offers a specific Mythic Skin that is rewarded to players after reaching tier 100. However, the General Manager of Overwatch 2, Walter Kong, explains that this current system presents two issues.
Firstly, players may be de-incentivised to complete the Battle Pass if the Mythic Skin on offer is for a hero that they don’t play. Additionally, it currently feels a little unfair if you aren’t able to play during a season when a desirable Mythic Skin is only on offer for a limited time.
With the new system, players will be able to directly choose the Mythic Skin for whichever hero they like, choosing from the complete backlog of all Mythic Skins that have ever been released for Overwatch.
Sadly, that’s all the Battle Pass detail that Kong was able to divulge during the ‘What’s Next?’ panel, but he assured players that more changes are also in the works and will be shared in due course.
We don’t know when these Battle Pass changes will come into effect
As for when these changes will come into effect in Overwatch 2, Blizzard didn’t provide any concrete details other than that we can expect to see them come into effect during 2024. We will update this article when we learn exactly when the Battle Pass changes will be coming to Overwatch 2.
During the same panel presentation, the Overwatch team shared future details for Season 9 and 10, with glimpses at the two new heroes coming next year - Venture and Space Ranger. Additionally, it also explored how the Competitive system will be changing in 2024, which should give existing players plenty to look forward to.
