Blizzard is trying to get more people to play Overwatch 2 ranked with the new Competitive Drive feature that is set to debut before the end of Season 12. It's a new way to gain rewards in ranked mode, but how does it all work?

What is the Competitive Drive system?

The Competitive Drive is a new limited-time event that takes place toward the end of an Overwatch 2 ranked season.

They act as a sought of specialised battle pass exclusively for ranked, meaning they also come with the quirks of ranked play, like losing your progress.

Essentially, when you win a ranked match, you will gain progress in the Competitive Drive, with losses doing the opposite. Your progress is banked when you hit a checkpoint, though.

There are six checkpoints to work through, offering Competitive Points or Signatures, the latter being an in-game cosmetic that's applied to your name and makes it look different; they are also removed on a rank reset.

The rewards for hitting these six checkpoints are:

  • 500 Competitive Points

  • Signature

  • 1000 Competitive Points

  • Advanced Signature

  • 1500 Competitive Points

  • Elite Signature

When does Competitive Drive start?

We don't have an exact date for when the first Competitive Drive begins, but it will be before the debut of Season 13 on October 15.

It's likely it will last a week or two, so I would expect a release in early October at the latest.

The release of the first one will also give us an indicator of when future drives will take place in concurrent seasons.
