Since October 3rd, 2022, Overwatch has officially shut down, and we had players who used real money to buy Loot Boxes and accumulate Overwatch Credits currency. So to avoid any legal action or backlash, Blizzard came up with Legacy Credits, which allows players to use their Overwatch Credits under the new name in the latest iteration, Overwatch 2, to get skins for new and old characters, weapon charms, and other things.
If you explore the Overwatch 2 FAQ section, you will see a question: "How can I use my Overwatch Credits in Overwatch 2."
Here is what Blizzard said: "Original Overwatch Credits will carry over into Overwatch 2 for players to use in the hero gallery on core launch cosmetics for new heroes. For example, each of Kiriko, Junker Queen, and Sojourn have 2 legendary, 1 epic, and a few rare skins available to purchase with either Credits or the new Coins."
"In addition, original Overwatch Credits can be used to buy other always-available items in the Hero Gallery for the 32 original heroes and some launch items in new cosmetic classes (for example 5 new Weapon Charms) as well."
So players who are seeing Legacy Credits in Battle.net and other platforms must not worry as these are nothing but your Overwatch Credits that will carry over to Overwatch 2, which you can use to get new cosmetics.

Will Legacy Credits Convert To Overwatch Coins In Overwatch 2?
No! The FAQ on Overwatch 2's official website clearly highlights that you can use both Overwatch Coins, the new currency, and Overwatch Credits, aka Legacy Credits, to get core launch cosmetics for new and returning heroes and other cosmetic items in general. So, you won't be able to convert your Overwatch Credits to Overwatch Coins.
