Overwatch 2 fans have been disappointed at the removal of Competitive Mystery Heroes, but why has it happened? Let's get into the answer in this Overwatch 2 Mystery Heroes in Season 4 guide.

Why was Overwatch 2 Competitive Mystery Heroes removed in Season 4?

It seems that Competitive Mystery Heroes was removed in Overwatch 2 Season 4 because it was one of the "seasonal rank modes". That's according to the game's server engineer, Morgan Maddren, who responded to a complaint on Twitter about the removal.

"I miss it too. MH was one of our seasonal rank modes, but it looks like we didn't communicate that well", Maddren explains. "Given how much fun it was, I imagine it will come back at some point!"

Although Blizzard Entertainment had given us no official statement before or after the start of the season why they removed Mystery Heroes, Maddren states it's merely because it was a seasonal ranked mode.

If Blizzard takes all the upset fan feedback into account, Competitive Mystery Heroes could almost definitely make a return further down the line.

In the meantime at the time of writing, the only Competitive modes available in Overwatch 2 are Competitive Play (Role Queue) and Competitive Play (Open Queue).

However, you can still play Mystery Heroes in unranked matches. What's more, there are various Arcade modes to try if you feel like mixing things up.

These include Push Maps, 5v5 Elimination, Total Mayhem, Mystery Duel, and the new Season 4 mode: B.O.B and Weave.

That's all you need to know thanks to our Overwatch 2 Mystery Heroes removed guide.
