The drop depends on RNG, so keep chopping the big Heartwood trees, and you will eventually get the Amber Fossil. Once that happens, you will trigger the "Trapped in Time" quest.

As mentioned earlier, Trapped in Time is one of the Found Item Quests in Palia that will ask you to "Bring the Amber Fossil to Jina for identification." You can find Jina in the Mirror Pond Ruins, and if she's not there, simply open the map and look around Kilima Village, and you will find her icon.
Once Jina assesses the Amber Fossil, you will progress the quest, and then you will get to decide whom you should give the Amber Fossil as a gift.
