All PAYDAY 3 difficulty settings
PAYDAY 3 currently has four different difficulty settings, and we’ve listed them for you below:
- Normal
- Hard
- Very Hard
- Overkill
As you might expect, Normal is the easiest of the bunch while Overkill is the most brutal. These difficulty settings get increasingly harder as you go through them, with various changes to enemies and the game world.
These settings also work a little differently from previous games, and we’ll explain exactly what’s changed below!

PAYDAY 3 difficulty settings explained
Each difficulty setting in PAYDAY 3 works a bit differently. For example, the amount of enemies that spawn will change depending on how hard the difficulty is. Waves are much larger on Overkill compared to Normal, and each setting has an increasingly harder number of enemies.
The game world will also change depending on the setting. In Hard mode, security cameras become indestructible which might force you to rethink your approach. On Overkill difficulty a guard will be patrolling the map who can’t be killed without raising an alarm.
However, all difficulty settings will feature all enemy types, so you don’t have to play on a certain difficulty to see them all in action. Enemies also have the same amount of health regardless of difficulty, so you don’t need to worry about enemies having way too much health on the harder settings.
