It has now been 10 years since the last PAYDAY, so as we approach the next game in the series you will find yourself wondering what engine is PAYDAY 3 going to run on. This was something we also wanted to know, so, at a recent preview event for the game, we asked the question.

PAYDAY 3 is the next instalment in the PAYDAY series, and is a four-player co-op heist game where players need to work together to pull off different scales of heists.

So, let’s take a look at what Starbreeze Studios told GGRecon when we asked about the engine that PAYDAY 3 will run on.

What engine will PAYDAY 3 use?

PAYDAY 3 is going to be using the incredibly popular Unreal Engine 4, the same engine that games like Hellblade, Sea of Thieves and more use. This will also be the first time that the game will have content parity on both PC and consoles, which can mostly be credited to the engine that is being used.

Will PAYDAY 3 move to Unreal Engine 5?

Obviously, the next iteration of the Unreal Engine is on the horizon, so we also asked the folks over at Starbreeze Studios if the game would eventually migrate over to Unreal Engine 5. Fortunately, the team confirmed that the game would move to Unreal Engine 5 - but it will be after launch. There was no time scale confirmed for when we can expect this transition to take place just yet.

That is everything we know about the PAYDAY 3 engine so far. If you have any other questions, be sure to check out the rest of the information we have on the latest heist shooter.
