The Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu Returns event features branching Timed Research that asks you to 'choose a path' between Snivy, Rowlet, or Sudowoodo - but which one is the correct answer?

To celebrate the release of the sequel Detective Pikachu Returns on Nintendo Switch, a limited-time event is happening in Pokemon GO. As well as themed wild spawns and Field Research tasks, there will also be event-themed Timed Research to complete.

While this Timed Research is quite short, there is a branching path which requires you to choose the correct answer to Professor Willow's question. If you choose the right option, you'll get an extra reward, so it's worth looking up the answer!

The question you'll be asked is: "This Pokemon is known for its green accents, but it’s a type of Pokemon that hasn’t been appearing around here recently. It also peddles in deception. You might say it’s not what it seems!"

If you've misplaced your detective hat and you're struggling to figure out the answer, you can find it below. However, if you'd rather figure it out for yourself, look away now!

Should you choose Snivy, Rowlet, or Sudowoodo?

Snivy, Sudowoodo, and Rowlet appearing in Pokemon GO

The correct answer for the Detective Pikachu Returns Timed Research 'choose a path' question is Sudowoodo.

While the "green accent" part of the description could easily refer to Rowlet and the leaves on its front side, it's the second part of the clue that gives the correct answer away.

Professor Willow's description notes that this Pokemon "peddles in deception" and is "not what it seems", which is a reference to the fact that Sudowoodo could easily be mistaken for a regular tree in nature until it moves.

If you get this answer correct, you'll be rewarded with an extra Detective Pikachu encounter, which is great if you're hunting its new Shiny version. If you choose Snivy or Rowlet, you won't get this encounter.

This marks a change from previous branching research paths in Pokemon GO, as there has never really been a 'correct' answer to choose before. The option you chose was normally just down to personal preference.
