Pokemon GO Mega Latios (alongside Mega Latias) were the first Legendary Mega Evolutions to be added to the game. These two super-strong Pokemon are quite difficult to defeat, as they headlined the first-ever Tier 6 raids in Pokemon GO. However, with the right counters and exploiting their weaknesses, any group of Trainers can succeed, provided you have the numbers.

Mega Latios is of particular interest to a ton of people, as it's a strong Pokemon to use against many other Raid bosses. To make it as strong as possible, it'll be important to make sure it has the right moveset. For all that and more, read on.

The key to taking down any Raid boss is knowing their weaknesses. Brush up on your type matchups by checking out our Pokemon GO type chart

Fortunately, Mega Latios has a ton of weaknesses. It's a Dragon/Psychic-type, and those two types don't cover any of each other's weaknesses.

Mega Latios is weak to: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost, and Ice.

On the flipside, it'll resist as many types as it's weak to: Electric, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Psychic, and Water.

With so many weaknesses, there's quite a large pool of Pokemon to choose from when selecting counters to Mega Latios. However, these are some of the best performers against it in Raids:

  • Dialga (Dragon Breath | Draco Meteor)
  • Salamence (Dragon Tail | Outrage)
  • Zacian (Snarl | Play Rough)
  • Rayquaza (Dragon Tail | Outrage)
  • Zekrom (Dragon Breath | Outrage)
  • Reshiram (Dragon Breath | Draco Meteor)
  • Mamoswine (Powder Snow | Avalanche)
  • Mega Houndoom (Snarl | Foul Play)
  • Mega Gengar (Lick/Shadow Claw | Shadow Ball)

Mega Latios can perform very well with either a Psychic-type moveset or a Dragon-type moveset. It's not top of the class in either of those types, but it's still pretty good and will definitely dominate in many contexts.

For a Psychic-type moveset, opt for Zen Headbutt and Psychic. Unfortunately, Latios' signature move, Luster Purge (which is exclusive to events), does not have impressive performance, and Psychic is the superior charged move.

For a Dragon-type kit, Mega Latios will do best with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw. These are its only Dragon-type moves at the moment.

Mega Evolutions can't be used in PvP, except against GO Rocket.
