Rockruff has an unusual evolution process in Pokemon GO, as it can become either Midday Form, Midnight Form, or Dusk Form Lycanroc depending on the time of day you evolve it.
Just like Castform and Flabébé, the adorable Rockruff's evolution Lycanroc has multiple forms it can take on which affect its stats and the attacks it has access to. If you're wondering how to get all three Lycanroc forms in Pokemon GO, keep on reading for the answers.
How to evolve Rockruff into Dusk Form Lycanroc
Dusk Form Lycanroc is the trickiest form to get in Pokemon GO, as only a select few Rockruff will be able to evolve into it. It seems there's no rhyme or reason to this, so it will simply be down to luck whether your Rockruff can become Dusk Form Lycanroc. If it can't, you'll need to catch another one.
In the mainline Pokemon games, Rockruff could only evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc if it had the ability Own Tempo. Abilities don't exist in Pokemon GO, so letting random Rockruff become Dusk Form Lycanroc is the next best option - although it will no doubt be frustrating for completionists.
Dusk Form Lycanroc debuted in Pokemon GO on Saturday, January 6, 2023, during the Lustrous Odyssey event. Unfortunately, only Rockruff that have been caught after that date will have a chance to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc, so any you've been saving for this form's debut will be ineligible.
The official line from Niantic is as follows: "Starting with this event, some Rockruff that Trainers hatch or encounter will be able to evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc instead of Midday Form or Midnight Form Lycanroc."
How to evolve Rockruff into Midday Form Lycanroc
You can get Midday Form Lycanroc by evolving a Rockruff with 50 Candy during the day. You can tell if it's considered daytime in the game because the sky will be bright and blue.

You can get Midnight Form Lycanroc by evolving a Rockruff with 50 Candy at night time. You can tell if it's considered nighttime in the game because the sky will be dark.
Which form of Lycanroc is best in Pokemon GO?
None of the Lycanroc forms are viable in the Pokemon GO Battle League or as Raid attackers, but if you've only got enough Candy to evolve a single Rockruff, then I'd recommend Midnight Form Lycanroc as it does have a slight edge thanks to its higher Defense and Stamina stats which give it some extra bulk.
It's best to view Lycanroc as a Pokedex filler more than anything else, so don't waste your resources powering them up or teaching them new attacks.
