- New Pokemon games mean new legendary Pokemon, here is everything we know about the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet legendaries.
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Co-Op: How It Works
It’s early days yet, but we can gather a few details on how co-op will work from the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date later this year. First of all, we know that co-op play allows up to four people to play together. You can explore the map together, battle together, and trade Pokemon this way. This seems to be different from how players appeared in each other's games in Pokemon Sword and Shield, as that was more about filling out the world with other players. This seems more about interactivity and actually playing the game together.
This makes more sense when you consider that The Pokemon Company has stated that this is a more open-world Pokemon game than any of the mainline games before it. According to the website, you are free to explore the world of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet at your leisure, not in an order dictated by the story. This freedom could mean a lot for how co-op will work, and give players far more freedom than they ever had in a Pokemon game before.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Co-Op: Player Limit
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you will be able to play multiplayer with up to three of your friends. This means you can explore the game as a party of four, or go and do your own thing in a shared world. How much you will be able to do together remains to be seen, but the trailer seems to imply you can do a lot in co-op.
For example, the players are shown meeting up, and then heading off in separate directions. They are then shown in four distinctly different locations, suggesting that even while in co-op, players can head off to different parts of the map. Later, two players are shown to meet back up and trade some Pokemon. This would suggest that friends can play together, do their own thing, and then meet up and interact. Trading also seems quite seamless, players can trade by meeting face to face rather than through some convoluted method.
How much can be done together remains to be seen. It has been stated that players can battle each other, but if they can battle co-operatively against NPCs or wild Pokemon is unknown. These new games have a more open-world RPG design, but assumably there is some kind of story progression, such as gyms and the Pokemon League. It seems unlikely that players will be able to do those kinds of things together, but it has not been ruled out yet.
