A 7-Star Pikachu Tera Raid is coming to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The series’ mascot is shedding its iconic Electric typing, picking up a Water Tera Type in this special 7-Star raid. It will also come with the Mightiest Mark like the 7-star Charizard, Cinderace, and Greninja before it.

Want to add this Water-type Pikachu to your team? This guide will go through its moveset, best counters, and how to access the Pikachu Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Ahead of the Pokemon Day celebrations on the 27th of February, the third 7 star raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will begin on February 23rd, 2023, at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET/11:59 pm GMT. This event will then conclude at 7 am PT/10 am ET/3 pm GMT.

Interestingly, these times do not align with previous Tera Raids. All other Tera Raids finished at midnight UTC. However, this one finishes an hour after the Pokemon Presents live stream planned for Pokemon Day. Could this suggest a new update or a special Tera Raid event? We’ll soon find out.

How To Unlock 7 Star Tera Raids

The 7-Star Water Pikachu can be found at special Black Tera Crystals across Paldea. You know the drill by now - you’ll need to have finished the main storyline and defeated a few 5-star raids.

Pikachu isn’t usually a particularly powerful Pokemon, but this particular one will be 6IV (Individual Values), which are the numbers that determine the stats of a single Pokemon. It can only be caught once per save file. So it’s worth finishing up the main story and capturing this Pika!

Ash will return to the anime, but will Pikachu be left behind?

Best Pikachu Tera Raid Counters

No moveset is confirmed at the time of writing, but it’s likely that this Pikachu will know Surf, in a nod to the opening of Pokemon Yellow back in 1998.

It is also unknown what ability the Pikachu in the 7-star Tera Raid will have. But, at the end of the day, it’s a Pikachu. Its 320 BST means you could probably knock it out with a slight gust of wind. However, initial builds suggest that Eelektross could be a good shout for this 7-Star Raid.

Personally, I’ll be going with a Mild (Special Attack up, Defence down) nature Eelektross, with the Levitate ability and a Grass Tera Type. In terms of moves, you’d do well with:

  • Thunder/Thunderbolt - For super-effective damage. Thunder is more powerful, but Thunderbolt is more accurate.
  • Acid Spray - To inflict damage and lower Pikachu’s Special Defence by two stages.
  • Giga Drain - For HP recovery and damage, with a super-effective, same-type attack bonus (STAB) by the Grass Tera Type.
  • Light Screen - To reduce Special Attack damage to your team.

I’ll also pair it with Light Clay for extended support of the Light Screen.
