Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's second DLC expansion, The Indigo Disk, has arrived and there are a few version exclusives that you can only catch in either Scarlet or Violet.

It's a long-standing tradition for mainline Pokemon games to have specific creatures that can only be caught in one version. This was the case for the base Scarlet & Violet games, and it's also the case for the DLC expansion The Indigo Disk.

How to get version exclusives you can't catch

If you own a copy of Pokemon Scarlet and want to catch a version exclusive from Pokemon Violet (or vice versa), you'll need to find a Trainer who owns the opposite version of the game and trade with them.

The good news is that you can trade over the internet, so you don't need to be in the same location as the other Trainer like you used to in the early days of Pokemon.

If you don't know anyone who has the opposite version of the game, you can try using trade codes. These are fan-made link codes that let you pair up with another Trainer looking to trade version exclusives.

Indigo Disk trade codes

Here are some trade codes you can use to trade the version exclusives with other Trainers:

Trade Code Scarlet Pokemon Violet Pokemon
0027 - 0037 Alolan Vulpix Alolan Sandshrew
0408 - 0410 Cranidos Shieldon
1021 - 1023 Raging Bolt Iron Crown

You might see other trade codes out there, but these are the ones created by Austin John Plays whose codes usually end up becoming the gold standard in mainline Pokemon games.

To use these trade codes, press the X button and select the Poke Portal. Make sure you're connected to the internet by tapping the L button. Then, select Link Trade and enter a trade code in the 'Set Link Code' box.

The codes are the same regardless of which version of the game you own. You might end up matched with a Trainer who has the same Pokemon as you, in which case you simply need to leave the trade and try again.

That's everything you need to know about the version exclusives in The Indigo Disk! Visit our Pokemon Scarlet & Violet homepage for more guides, like the latest Mystery Gifts and the Tera Raid events schedule.
