Here's how you can upgrade Koraidon & Miraidon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet feature new legendary Pokemon on the cover, Miraidon and Koraidon. Here is what you need to know to upgrade your legendary Pokemon.
Koraidon and Miraidon are the legendary Pokemon featured on the covers of the new games. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are bucking traditions by using the featured legendaries for transportation, but they require upgrading to get to their full potential.
Here is everything you need to know to upgrade Koraidon and Miraidon.
How to upgrade Koraidon and Miraidon
Very early in the game, you will come into contact with one of the legendaries, depending on your version. The Pokemon will be in a weakened state, and although you will shortly be able to ride on it, it will still lack much of its power.
In order to restore the Pokemon's strength, we need to take on the Path of Legends, the questline that has us track down and defeat the five Titan Pokemon. Each Titan defeated will restore one of Koraidon/Miraidon's powers.
From weakest to strongest, the easiest order to take on the Titans is the Stony Cliff Titan, the Open Sky Titan, the Lurking Steel Titan, the Quaking Earth Titan, and then the False Dragon Titan. Respectively, defeating each of these Titans will unlock Koraidon/Miraidon's dash, swimming, high jump, gliding, and climbing abilities.
How to use them in battle
You can use these legendary Pokemon in battle, but there is much to do before you can. There are a lot of spoilers in explaining the specifics, so we will be intentionally vague to avoid that.
Still, if you want to avoid spoilers altogether, suffice it to say that if you play through the main paths of the story, you will eventually gain the ability to use Koraidon or Miraidon in battle.
More specifically, you need to play through to the end. Early on, the game divides your progress among three quest lines. You must gain all eight gym badges and take on the Elite Four, as is tradition. You must also deal with Team Star, and help Arven with the Titan Pokemon.
Once you complete all three quests, you will be given a new objective in a place called Area Zero. Head there and complete the story to gain the ability to use Koraidon or Miraidon's battle form.
To activate it, you need to have at least one free spot in your team of Pokemon. Press X to open the menu, and select Koraidon/Miraidon to have it change to battle form. This will bring the Pokemon into your party and you can use it in battle. You can repeat this process to return it to ride form, or simply press + to mount the Pokemon, removing it from your party.
