With Rise of the Ronin made by the developer of the Nioh games, Team Ninja, it's easy to wonder whether multiplayer modes will be made available in this samurai adventure as well.

Thankfully, fans both old and new hoping to play with friends will like the answer in this guide.

Is Rise of the Ronin multiplayer?

Thankfully, yes, Rise of the Ronin has an online co-op multiplayer mode along with just going at it in single-player, as confirmed in the game's FAQ section on its PlayStation website page

Whilst Rise of the Ronin's co-op mode will allow you to play through the game's story missions with up to three players, there's won't be any PVP combat - meaning you won't be able to cross swords against your friends.

Do you need PS+ for Rise of the Ronin multiplayer?

Yes, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required for Rise of the Ronin's co-op multiplayer mode.

Whilst you can still enjoy the game without an active PS+ membership, you will need one to jump into Rise of the Ronin missions with your fellow samurai online.

It may be disappointing for those without a subscription who are hoping to play with others to make tough missions easier, but when launch comes, you could always lower the difficulty settings to make gameplay a bit more manageable.

For more on the game, check out Rise of the Ronin's pre-order bonuses and Deluxe Edition, its download size, and my early impressions preview to find out how good the opening chapters are.
