You'll need to know how to get hay in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch if you want to keep your horses well-fed and happy.

There are a few ways to get hay in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch and it differs somewhat from the hay mechanics of The Sims 3 Pets.

To find out more about keeping horses happy and how to make hay in the game, read below.

How to get Hay

You can get Hay in The Sims 4 Horse Ranch by harvesting Prairie Grass by hand. The Prairie Grass will be added to your inventory, you can then choose the option to 'Refill Feeder with Prairie Grass' once you've clicked on your horse's feeder.

If you have some in your inventory, you can also choose to feed horses by hand which will gain you a small friendship boost.

You can also buy hay directly by clicking on a feeder on your ranch, although this will cost you 30 Simoleons each time.

Where can you find Prairie Grass?

Prairie grass grows throughout the neighborhoods of Chestnut Ridge (see the above image). It resembles long stalks of hay-like grass and will grow naturally. There is a new lot challenges associated with Prairie Grass which involves keeping it under control and preventing it from spreading across your entire ranch.

You can also search Prairie Grass and your Sims will have a chance to find hidden collectibles within.

As seen on The Sims 4 Horse Ranch livestream, earlier this July, horses can also naturally graze from a patch of Prairie Grass whilst out on a trail.

If you're struggling to cope with the demands of your horses, you can also hire a Ranch Hand to help with animal care.

Now, you should be all set to provide for your horses and stockpile a good supply of hay. Stay tuned here at GGRecon for more Sims 4 tips and tricks.
